Why is a high chlorine level bad?

Have you ever walked by a pool or hot tub and saw the pool surface or cover had faded colors? Sometimes this can be caused by high chlorine levels. But the problems don’t stop there, high chlorine levels can also cause degradation of certain types of plastic, metal, and rubber components in pool pumps, filters, and heaters.

In addition, if your combined chlorine levels are too high then byproducts like chloramines can be dwelling in the pool giving off a really strong chlorine smell. Most people think the chlorine smell is a good thing but it can actually cause irritation to the eyes and lungs of residents or other swimmers.
